Normal/Steel, Electric/Steel, and Ghost/Steel are tied for the most resistances, having twelve resistances each, although there are currently no Pokémon with the combination of Normal/Steel. Steel types also cannot be poisoned (except by Twineedle in Generation II or by a Pokémon with Corrosion since Generation VII) or damaged by a sandstorm. Although the number of Steel's resistances decreased from eleven to ten in Generation VI (losing Ghost-type and Dark-type resistances but adding a resistance of the newly-created Fairy-type), Steel remains the most resistant type. In Generation II, the Steel type was created to balance out the previously overpowered Normal and Psychic types, as both types are resisted by Steel. Steel-type Pokémon cannot get poisoned, except by a Pokémon with Corrosion. Starting from Generation III, Steel-type Pokémon cannot get poisoned at all.
In Generation II, Steel-type Pokémon cannot be poisoned by Poison-type moves, hence they can be poisoned only by Twineedle. Steel-type Pokémon are immune to damage from the sandstorm weather condition. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
